2010 Overview:
The annual CSDC Technology Application Conference (CTAC) provides an opportunity for CSDC clients and staff from all over North America to gather and discuss AMANDA and the many ways it is used to improve efficiency and deliver citizen centric services. Our host organization this year is the City of Waterloo. In addition to the education and networking benefits, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy two evenings out to experience the culture the entertainment Waterloo has to offer. Always a conference highlight, attendees will once again get an opportunity to visit the offices of the hosting organization to learn about their AMANDA implementation.

As Jason Hiner reported in his Tech Sanity Check blog in November, the Society for Information Management (SIM) , a community of senior-level IT professionals, released the result of their most recent IT Trend Survey. Interestingly, though not surprisingly, “Business productivity and cost reduction” moved up to the top spot on the list, replacing “IT and business alignment”.

“Cloud Computing” is a hard term to miss these days. In October, The Economist ran a feature article discussing the brewing battle to dominate cloud computing, identifying Google, Microsoft and Apple as three big players to watch. The article points out that this new approach to computing offers benefits for both consumers and businesses, which also extends to government agencies.

A recent report by the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) urges governments at all levels to create easier access to data. The report acknowledges that while most data is already readily available, governments need to make a better effort at making the data readily accessible. Says Dugan Petty, Oregon, CIO and co-chair of NASCIO's Enterprise Architecture & Governance Committee, "Citizens shouldn't be expected to know what agency is responsible for creating publicly available data."
